Who is the Gailen?

A musician by hobby and tech worker by trade. I have seen the neocities community a few times in recent years and have a softspot in my heart for the old web. Neo-cities seems to be a good combination of that vibe. It's technically the indie-web but it seems to be a good way to break out of the tech-bro algorhythm and I am all about that!

I first started using computers as a small child in the early 90s. My mother was a computer programer and we had access to computers and the internet well before it was common.

I remember as a 6 years having to have a working knowlege of the MSDOS command line so I could navigate to my favorite text based pre-windows games.

Shortly after that, we got a windows 3.11 machine with AOL 3.0! Circa 1993? The word (wide web) had been opened up to my 9 year old brain and I had no idea it would become what it has today.

What will I do with my little corner of neocities?

I will probably treat it like an old school blog (remember xanga?) and share some of my interests and antedotes. I will aim to keep the asthetic old web-ish too. This is actualy a bit of an ironic challenge for me because I am a web developer!

Being a web developer, I have plenty of familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other tools. For me that means, I will try to just stick to whatever tools I might have used in the late 90s and early 00s. Like right now, I am just typing out HTML in the neocities editor and it really feel nostalgic. If you are familiar with most IDEs, they will often automatically complete your HTML elements for you and autofill things for you. Not so here! Every character is typed!!! AND WE LOVES IT!
